1946
Spartan
Manor 25'
This 1946 Spartan Manor 25 was in pretty tough shape when we got it.
The interior (as you will see) was mostly homemade, with a few bits of the
original woodwork still in place.  It all had to go.  The leaking roof vents and
broken glass had allowed years of water infiltration to take its toll.

Fortunately, Spartan Aircraft Company really built these trailers. The
overall structure was in good shape and the exterior skin, though dented,
pitted and covered with roof tar in places, polished up pretty well.

Unfortunately, Spartan used a bronze window screen, mounted on the
exterior, which after almost 60 yrs. of electrolysis had corroded right
through the aluminum window frames.  This fact, along with the broken
glass, missing tracks and badly damaged rain "flashing" over the windows,
led to my decision to replace all four operable side windows with new,
custom-made windows from Peninsula Glass Company.  Not original in
design, but they do work well with the Spartan exterior and provide a
weathertight seal - something the original windows did not!  See what I
mean by Re-Creating?

We were able to restore the original quarter-circle rear windows and door
portholes which give the Spartan its distinctive look.  Check out the photos.

A homemade dinette.
Not too bad, but hardly
original.
Lots of water damage,
and the pink paint is
nice.  At least the
window is intact.
One of the three
leaking roof vents.
More moisture
damage.
The only area of original,
unpainted woodwork, but badly
rotted in spots.  The tempered
Masonite floor is amazingly
strong and rot-free.  Most of
the screws fastening the floor
to the frames have rusted
away.

Missing wheel covers, rust stains, broken
glass, broken step, dents...  Perfect!
Leaky window, broken
taillights, but sooooo cool!
Check out the roof tar above the
windows and door.  Nice touch.
Another view of the tar.  At least the
plexiglass in front has been replaced.
